Keeping an eye out for Aliso Viejo's taxpayers

Social Media Out Of Control In AV

harrington-post

The popular Facebook page, Residents of Aliso Viejo went crazy over the last 48 hours in response to an article posted by resident Ray de Leon. His comments about how the mayor is selected turned into an all out war of words between residents, a college student and the wife of Mayor Pro Tem David Harrington. After almost a dozen comments and responses to comments about her husband, Mrs. Harrington repeatedly mentioned that her husband voted several times in favor of Councilman Ross Chun, supported him for Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem, and in her words, “put his ass on the line” for councilman Chun by voting for him. That is the most interesting comment of all. What kind of jeopardy is Harrington in for voting for Chun, and from whom? One has to ask what kind of deal was struck that would cause Harrington fear for voting a certain way. Mrs. Harrington agreed to explain the many reasons, but only in a private phone call to another resident.

In the end, Mrs. Harrington established that her husband is a good guy and only made one brief sarcastic comment, that he should not be associated with the likes of Mike Munzing and Scott White, and in fact, had done a lot for the students at Soka University (?) and asked that the recently bullied student from the liberal arts university reach out to Harrington privately to discuss. Throughout this discussion, Chun made one comment, simply acknowledging that Mrs. Harrington’s husband had indeed voted for him, while the other Harrington, David, remained silent.

Mayor Pro Tem Harrington Joins Bullying of Students

The presumptive next mayor of Aliso Viejo, Mayor Pro Tem David Harrington joined Aliso Viejo Realtor and Munzing Campaign buddy Scott White in bullying Soka University Students on social media. Both White and Harrington traded barbs and quips with the students after a peaceful protest by the students at the Aliso Viejo Library. Scott White, who also represents The Orange County Association of Realtors (OCAR) as a Board Member, called the students “the current crop of entitled, nipple-suckling, participation-trophy-needing, whiney babies” while Harrington laughed along through his posts. The Mayor Pro Tem’s participation was reminiscent of Billy Bush’s recent interview with Donald Trump, where Bush laughed and egged on Trump to keep going with his demeaning talk about women, and his sexual abuse of strangers.

This is not the first time Aliso Viejo council members have attacked Soka University Students. Just 4 years ago, Mayor Mike Munzing and the Tea Party protestors he brought to a council meeting heckled some Soka Students until one young lady left the meeting in tears. This pattern of bad behavior by Aliso Viejo city officials and business leaders is a tragic example of the hatred toward the youth that seems to be brewing in our city. Soka University should think twice before inviting Harrington to speak at their school next year, and every home buyer should NOT consider White when looking for a realtor to represent them in their next purchase.

Four More Years of Munzing

As the American public weeps about the results of the presidential race, citizens of Aliso Viejo scratch their heads and imagine what another four years of Mike Munzing will be like. This election season told us a lot about this politician. He was chastised by the President of the PTSA for hiding behind the hit-site, TheRealCUSD, caught using council member Chun’s campaign disclosure list to raise money for his own campaign, revealed as having cost the city an unidentified amount of the taxpayer’s money in legal fees after offending city employees, and most recently, accepting a huge campaign contribution from CT Realty after voting to approve their permits.

So how did Munzing pull this one off and get re-elected? Even the breaking news that Mike Munzing voted against Aliso Niguel Honor Student Kelsea Cooper, attempting to keep her from receiving an important college scholarship, was not enough to persuade the voters that Munzing doesn’t represent Aliso Viejo. How? Well, it seems that money cures all wounds, especially the political ones. This season, Munzing was able to raise more money than any other candidate, trading his votes of approval for campaign contributions from city vendors, and the onslaught of his direct mail campaign and thousands of signs littering the streets and parks of Aliso Viejo was enough to distract the voters from the truth; Munzing is in this for himself, and no one else.

What can the voters learn from this election? You get what you pay for, and you deserve what you bought. There is no buyers remorse yet, so perhaps Aliso Viejo is destined to be represented by this political huckster, a snake oil salesman of the worst kind. Congratulations Aliso Viejo. You have another four years of Mike Munzing.

Munzing Attempts to Sway the LDS Vote

At last week’s Aliso Viejo Candidate’s Forum, the Clown Mayor Mike Munzing failed at yet another attempt to sway the public’s vote. This time, Munzing used his introduction period to explain to the public, many of whom are from the LDS community, that his decisions are “guided by God” and arrived at “through prayer.” His continuous religious references were begun with his display of a famous Arnold Friberg painting of George Washington kneeling in prayer at Valley Forge. Munzing displayed this work, painted by the Mormon Artist, on his iPhone and identified it as his “inspiration.”

This sad attempt to pander to a faith community was so obvious and pathetic, it was an embarrassment to himself, his wife who attended the event, and of course, his ridiculous mentor, Bill Phillips. Munzing’s politicizing of school girls, charity events, scholarship opportunities for students, and now, religion is nothing short of sick. Someone please clue in the Clown Mayor of Aliso Viejo and let him know he is fooling No One! Everyone, even the children, see through is weak attempts applying to the audience and it is OFFENSIVE!

Bill Phillips Tries To Look Ethical and Throws Munzing Under the Bus

Community Members in Aliso Viejo put on their own Candidates Forum on Thursday night. Almost 100 voters showed up to learn more about the ballot measures and about the candidates. For some reason, campaign buddies Bill Phillips and Clown Mayor Mike Munzing showed up an hour late, while Incumbent Ross Chun and Challenger Mary Rios arrived at the start. There was no debate and no tough questions at the vanilla event, but one interesting thing did occur while once again, Phillips put in a plug to get people to call him “The Elder Statesman.” That’s right, once again Phillips referenced the nick-name that he has tried to adopt for the past 8 years. Over and over again, Bill Phillips tells the public that he is embarrassed that his colleagues and the voters refer to him this way, but in truth, Phillips seems to be the only one who calls him that. But that wasn’t the most amazing part of the forum.

During the candidate introductions, Phillips pointed out that he is “self-funding” his campaign so he is not beholden to anyone and can do “anything he wants.” This was an obvious reference to the Clown Mayor’s well-publicized conflict of interest, and the public’s revelation that Munzing has repeatedly voted for vendors and contractors and then received large campaign contributions. Most recently, an Orange County Register article revealed that Munzing received a HUGE contribution from CT Realty. This after repeatedly voting to approve various permits and designs for the developer. Oops!

And challenger Mary Rios piled on by pointing out that she has “no one in her pocket” except maybe the Firefighters, as they were her largest campaign contributors.

Bill, we’ll call the “The Elder Statesman” if you want, but it will take a lot more than this to call you ethical. Keep trying!

Mayor Munzing’s Conflict of Interest

No Truer Words were ever spoken!

No Truer Words were ever spoken!

The Orange County Register reveled some interesting information about Mayor Munzing’s campaign finance success this week. It turns out that one of his largest contributors, CT Realty, is also the development company Munzing repeatedly voted in favor of throughout their planning and permitting process. That’s right, his favoritism had a direct financial impact on his political campaign. Is that illegal? Probably not. But it does explain why Munzing requested a list of all of the city vendors who have been paid significant public funds for contracts in the past several years. This was the kick-off to his fundraising campaign earlier this year, culminating with his “victory” of receiving mega-bucks from CT Realty.

Mayor Munzing has consistently requested the contribution reports from the other candidates, pouring over them to find other fundraising opportunities. This seems to be a wasted effort since he doesn’t have to look too far to find greener pastures. He only has to look to his own voting record to know who he can count on for money. That was the case with CT Realty. Munzing’s corruption continues, and is supported by every council member who voted him in as mayor. Nice job Aliso Viejo City Council!

Given Mikes recent “inappropriate conduct” and his “narcissistic” way of voting in every council meeting, we should demand the city attorney to warn us whenever his votes poses a potential conflict. We bring this up since Mike doesn’t seem to know how to comply with an ethics code as he has previously need the help of the city’s legal department for his recent rumored “offending of female officers.”

Another issue AVWatchdog has with Mayor Munzing is why is he not required to reimburse the city for the legal expenses on his behalf? Didn’t Mr. Tsunoda have to reimburse the City for his misconduct?

Last Minute Candidate’s Forum

votedetails

Who would have thought that the community would put together a candidate’s forum this late in the election cycle? Well, get ready, because it is coming your way on Thursday evening, November 3rd from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center. This is our chance to FINALLY get some answers from the Clown Mayor, Mike Munzing and his stooge, Bill Phillips. Here are some suggested questions to ask Munzing:

  1. Did you or did you not cost the city thousands of dollars in legal fees due to your misconduct toward female employees in City Hall?
  2. When will you be reimbursing the taxpayers for these expenses?
  3. Why would you pose for photo ops with students at Aliso Niguel High School and then vote AGAINST an honor student for an important and valuable college scholarship and internship?
  4. What is the status of the FPPC investigation into your violation of their gift policy and will you be paying the fines associated with your “free ride” on a private jet?
  5. How can you justify your attempts to affect the outcome of the election and the voter’s right to support Measure M when you don’t even pay property tax or have ever had a child in our school district?
  6. How can you defend your secret ownership of the hate site, “The Real CUSD” while calling the community members “cowards” for posting their criticisms of your misconduct?
  7. Why did you vote in favor of 1 Vape Lounge in our city, and against the next Vape Lounge? Why did you vote in favor of 1 finance company and against 1 that is a competitor of yours?

Some questions for Bill Phillips:

  1. By endorsing Mayor Munzing, don’t you condone his misconduct in city hall?
  2. By electing him mayor, aren’t you telling the public that you feel he is the best, most qualified representative of our city? How do you justify this?
  3. As a private school parent, never enrolling your children in our public schools, what is the basis for your proposing and voting for a resolution against the school bond, Measure M?
  4. Have you ever attended a school board meeting or volunteered for a school committee?

This event is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to get some answers to the questions that Mike Munzing and Bill Phillips have been dodging for months. Let’s all turn out and put their feet to the fire!

Aliso Viejo is tired of Mayor Munzing and Aliso Viejo Realtor Scott White

Mayor Munzing and Aliso Viejo Realtor Scott White are continuing their nasty political attacks, and the citizens are getting sick and tired of them. On the popular Facebook page, Residents of Aliso Viejo, White continued his attacks on challenger Mary Rios, repeatedly siting the cost of this year’s election as her fault. Come on Scott, isn’t this The United States of America? Doesn’t every American have a right to run for office, serve for the public’s best interest, and support Democracy? I think that have been the point Mr. Lou Rios made to Scott White when he posted a moving image of his father in uniform, and the American Flag. Wake up Scott. This IS America.

Meanwhile, Mayor Munzing is discussing campaign tactics with elementary school children at St. Mary’s in Aliso Viejo. That’s right, he’s talking trash and explaining how bad people are saying mean things about him on social media. Is this appropriate for the Mayor to  discuss with young school children? Maybe, but it’s certainly pathetic to see an adult in a public office pandering to children, trying to get their sympathy for his failing re-election campaign. How do we know this is happening, you ask? Because we have seen the video posted on Facebook by none other than Scott White. No kidding. Another attempt and winning over the public. And best of all, Mayor Munzing talks about his integrity, and claims that these statements about him are lies. Really?

  1. Munzing voted against Aliso Niguel High School Graduate Kelsea Cooper when she was nominated for a prestigious scholarship. The public record plainly shows Munzing’s “nay vote” and he cannot deny it.
  2. Munzing’s misconduct necessitated legal intervention as documented by an official public letter issued by the Aliso Viejo City Clerk. This intervention cost the taxpayers money in the way of staff hours and legal bills. This much is documented.

Jake is late to the party, and a little misinformed.

clowns-without-make-up                                             CLOWNS WITHOUT MAKE-UP

Jake Vollebregt was a speaker at Mayor Mike’s recent fundraiser, and one of only 6 attendees. Not exactly a packed house, but that didn’t stop the Clown Mayor from setting up his little PA system and personal mic. At the “event” the CUSD School Board candidate addressed almost half a dozen listeners (since Jake and Mike were speaking, the attendance count dropped to 4), where he made the following mis-statements:

“Measure M, which is the $1.8 billion tax”

Jake, if you are running for the school board in opposition to Measure M, shouldn’t you know how much the bond really is? Measure M is a $889M bond, not $1.8B. Now you can inflate the numbers if you calculate interest over 35 years, but is that accurate? Is the median price of a home in aliso Viejo $650,000, or should we add interest and taxes over a 30 year loan and tell people our homes are actually $1.5 million dollars? If you are going to run for the school board, you really should get the math right.

“Measure M was created on August 10th, just 2 days before the filing deadline…”

Jake, the truth is that the school district and its volunteers, made up of parents, teachers and concerned citizens, have been doing the work of creating the proposed bond measure for more that 2 years. Just because you only became aware of the effort 2 days before it was filed does not mean that many dedicated volunteers weren’t working hard to find a solution long before you decided to start your political career. I’m sure that they’re not mad that you are a little late to the party, but you should at least get the facts straight.

“Another $600 dollars of property bills a year is not the answer.”

Jake, based on the bond measure, for your property tax to increase by $600 a year, your home’s assessed value would have to be about $1.4M. That’s your assessed value, not the purchase price. So either you are speaking to less than 1% of your future constituents, or you need to once again, check your math.

Mayor Mike Caught Clowning Around…

…but this is NO LAUGHING MATTER!

At the last Aliso Viejo City Council meeting, Clown Mayor Mike Munzing was caught flat-footed when PTSA President Ellen Garrick identified him as the possible owner of the Capistrano Unified School District “Hit Site” The Real CUSD. Munzing could be seen visibly shaken as she presented the council with documents identifying the Clown Mayor as the possible host of the web site. All Munzing could do was mumble to his colleagues on the council that he had never heard of the web site before. Those comments didn’t seem to float once Garrick pointed out that Munzing has been posting links to the site on his Facebook pages for months. Oops! Looks like the Clown Mayor was caught flat-footed in his giant clown shoes.

So what does this mean to Aliso Viejo voters? Well, it certainly calls the Clown Mayor’s integrity into questions. Along with that, the voters should also question the accuracy of anything Munzing says or does from the dias, and what his motivations might be. Obviously the influence of special interest groups is having a big effect on what Munzing is doing and saying as he supposedly “represents” the people and the CHILDREN of Aliso Viejo.
